Great Moments In Film – Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

It was only a matter of time that we would encounter Jimmy Stewart on our journey through Great Moments throughout the decades. Here he plays Jefferson Smith, a forest ranger who, via a coin flip, is placed into the US Senate. The idea is that he’d be overwhelmed by the whole thing and simply be a pawn. However, he begins to learn about the system and goes against their (the corrupt officials that placed him there) plans. They frame him, including Mr Payne (a man Smith looked up to), which forces Smith to go on a day long filibuster. This is towards the end in which he gives his famous “Lost Causes” speech.

Enjoy!
