Great Moments In Film – Vivacious Lady (1938)
This may be very odd for me to say, but I absolutely adore Ginger Rogers. Sure, she pretty much made the same movie over and over again; you know, she meets a man, they go on a series of adventures of some sort, the unlikely duo eventually fall in love and live happily ever after. Rinse and repeat.
However, the plot lines don’t really matter when it comes to Ms. Rogers. There’s an unmistakable charm that she’s possesses: she both sassy and strong, yet has a sensitive and vulnerable side to her as well. Of course, we all know that she was one hell of a dancer, too. She is always a joy to watch and I can’t help but to stop what I’m doing if I see her in a movie on TV.
Here, we have Ginger playing the newlywed wife to Jimmy Stewart. They had a whirlwind romance in the big city, he takes her home to meet the family. The problem? The family doesn’t know about her nor does the woman he was currently engaged to. Whoops. As he attempts to tell his father of the marriage, the two women meet up. Let’s just say it, “Catfight! Catfight!” Just try not to bust up when Ginger puts her dukes up. I dare you.
