Great Moments In Film – Singing In The Rain (1952)

I finally saw Singing In the Rain this past year and I loved it. It was much funnier than I ever thought it would be. Debbie Reynolds is an absolute dynamo in the movie and she alone would be reason enough to watch it, let alone the rest of the cast. It simply is one of the best musicals I’ve ever seen and I’m not huge on musicals, either.

Naturally this would be the famous scene where the titular song is sung by the one and only Gene Kelly, who is one of the best performers in movie history. There’s not much to say about it as it really speaks for itself. The entire song is the equivalent to doing cartwheels after one falls in love. My favorite bit? When he gets caught by the cop. Makes me bust up every time. One interesting note is that Gene Kelly was battling a cold while filming this scene. Splashing around in water while sick must not have been nearly as fun as he made it out to be.
