Great Moments In Film – Saving Private Ryan (1998)

To me, Saving Private Ryan is hands down the best movie of 1998. It’s the best movie I’ve ever seen in the theatres and is easily in my personal top five favorite movies. In this clip, another of the squad’s men have fallen in their seemingly vain search for Private Ryan (the last remaining of a set of brothers; the others have died in combat). This is the aftermath.

To explain, Hanks plays Captain John Miller. He purposely withholds any information of his life to those he commands. It had gotten to the point that the men have started a pool: whoever can get the Captain to talk wins. Here, Miller opens up about his past and more. It’s an outstanding scene with some of Hanks’ best work to date. That’s saying something.

Happy Thanksgiving!
