Great Moments In Film – The Jerk (1979)

Another lighthearted edition today. The Jerk is an hilarious look at pure stupidity starring Steve Martin as Navin R. Johnson. It follows Navin’s adventures from a “poor black child (he was adopted)” to a marriage to a pretty girl (Bernadette Peters’ Marie) and a meteoric rise to wealth via an invention for eye glasses. Unfortunately for Navin, he’s sued due to his glasses causing one man to go cross-eyed and possibly resulting in the death of another. This is the scene where it all falls apart and decides to leave…making sure he tells Marie of the only things he needs.

  1. One of the craziest, silly, and over-the-top comedies I have ever seen but in a good way, with one of the best Steve Martin performances ever! Good stuff here, check out mine when you can!
