Great Moments In Film – Big Fish (2003)

Tim Burton’s Big Fish is a movie that’s not really underrated, but is often overlooked in regards to it’s greatness. It just isn’t mentioned enough in lists of the best movies of the 2000s (even an honorable mention, throw me a bone!). It’s a story about a writer (Will Bloom as played by Billy Crudup) coming to terms with his estranged tall tale telling father Edward (Albert Finney), who happens to be on his deathbed.

This little segment is about how a young Edward (Ewan McGregor) wins over his eventual wife,  Sandra (Alison Lohman and Jessica Lange playing the younger and older parts respectfully). As with anything Edward talks about, we don’t really know how much of it is real and how much of it is complete BS. But it doesn’t matter, he tells it with such charm (and is filmed as such) that we’re just drawn into the story. Just a great few minutes about love and determination.
